Have you been watching the Detection Dogs on TV and thought that your dog could do that too? Well they can! The CKC has a new sport designed around professional detection dogs. We use essential oils instead of illegal substances; it’s a bit easier for the dog and does not involve jail time for the trainers.
Classes With BDKC
All dogs have the instinct to use their noses to find what they want. In class we just convince them that they want to find the oil and teach them when they are being asked to find it. We have classes for beginner to advanced at BDKC. All dogs in our scent classes will be asked to first complete the foundation level where they learn to search with motivation. When we know they are committed to searching all of the other training falls into place.
Your dog does not need to know obedience or have any other formal training. They just need to have a nose, and a desire for a reward. (Does your dog like food?) Classes usually run on Sunday afternoon at the Loyalist Vet Doggie Day Care on Bell Blvd in Belleville. Contact us to find out more about class start times and with any other questions you may have.
Plans for the fall 2020 BDKC scent trail are well underway. It will be situated at the same location we held our sanction match. It is a beautiful spot to search with lots of interior and exterior space and a huge indoor arena for containers. We will update this page when the date and time have been approved by CKC.
The full list of CKC rules can be found on the CKC website.
